The vast expanses of mud on the Exe Estuary provide feeding for thousands of waders, including Avocets and Black-tailed Godwits, but they can be so far away it is difficult to see them. On a high tide these birds move onto the reserves of Bowling Green Marsh and Darts Farm to rest, waiting for the tide to fall again. The date and time for this birdwatch correspond with a high tide ensuring that a lot of the estuary birds will be on Bowling Green Marsh and Goose Moor reserves.
