Friends of Brixham Library AGM 2025, 30 June

Meeting started 14:00
Present: Sarah Bajomee, Alison Potter, Jen Cooper, Doug Cooper, Heather Erasmus, David Cooper, Christine Burnes, Jean Mills, Norma Earp, Sandra Cowland, Audrey Armitage. (Margaret Crews, Ivor John, non-members)

  1. Chairmans report presented by Heather. Heather thanked the Jen and David for their support and the Library staff for providing a welcoming environment. Heather highlighted an enjoyable year of various Talks, including recent ones about the Vigilance boat, Brixham in Bloom and Shoalstone Seawater Pool. The monthly Coffee Mornings with cake, are popular. The Flower boxes outside the Library are beautiful and well tended due to the efforts of Jen and David.
    1. Accounts were presented by Jen, copies were available for inspection, see attached.
      The accounts are in draft form ready for checking and audit by Ian Weeks Accountancy team (free of charge).
      The funds from Membership and Coffee Mornings have increased slightly. Donations included £100 from the Bollywood Dance group and £500 legacy from Dr Morris to be allocated to Teenager projects. Recent spend included £425 to replace items in the Defribillator, mounted outside the library for public usage. Also new chairs.
      Current Funds total, £4,759.
    2. Jen also reported that Membership numbers are 97.
    3. Sarah presented a talk on the activites in the Library this year.
      Sarah reflected on how people commented that it was a happy place to work and visit.
      Another year of funding for the monthly community breakfast was in place from Laywell Matthey Trust. Blood Pressure monitors were now available for loan. Seed swap had started with donations from Sutton Seeds and from the public, over 100 packets donated.
      New activity for Teenagers will be a book bag scheme starting soon. The ever popular Summer Reading challenge starts soon with new aspects and events.
      The upcoming Festival of Arts Brixham (F.A.B.) is a new venture, involving the Library, Theatre, Museum and is scheduled for October.
      Friends donations have been used for new chairs, materials and prizes for childrens activities and keeping the Defribillator
    4. Elections:
      David Cooper announced he would be reducing his commitments this year. Alison Potter was introduced to the meeting and talked about her previous working background in Libraries and her continued interest since retirement.
      Four nominations had been received and were appointed as;
      Chair Heather Erasmus,
      Treasurer and Membership Secretary Jen Cooper,
      Joint Secretary David Cooper
      Joint Secretary Alison Potter.

There was no other business and the meeting closed at 14:40.
