There are still places available for both of the following two events, so why not pop into the library and book yourself a place.
Bluebells, Crests & Dusk Chorus with Mike Langman – £5 members, £7 non members Wednesday 3rd, 6.00pm – 9.00pm Meet at Noss car park (just before the Dartmouth higher ferry). Bring a drink and a snack.
Come and explore the National Trust’s Long Wood near Noss Marina when bluebells should be at their best. This impressive oak woodland hanging on the side of the Dart Estuary holds a recently discovered population of Devon’s only Firecrests. Join Mike on a circular walk (approx. 2.5 miles a bit steep in places) to find some of these tiny gems together with their equally small cousin the Goldcrest. We’ll also enjoy the ‘dusk chorus’ which can be almost as good as a dawn chorus but without the ridiculously early morning start!
Redstarts and Cuckoos on Dartmoor with Mike Langman £8 members, £10 non members Friday 12th, 10.00am – 12.30pm
Meet: Warren house Inn. Parking available outside Pub or in Bennett’s Cross car park 200m East of the Pub. Bring a packed lunch or perhaps enjoy a pub meal.
A bird rich and beautiful walk (approx. 2miles) from Warren House Inn to Sousons Plantation and back. Hopefully enjoying some of the best birds Dartmoor can offer including Cuckoo, Redstart, Whinchat, Stonechat, Siskin and Pied Flycatcher. In 2016 there was a bonanza of Cuckoos – even watching one female probably laying eggs in a Meadow Pipit nest!
